The nearby resort of Aspen Highlands is generally preferred by beginners, although it also has some expert slopes. If you are a beginner, or want something a little less challenging and relaxing, and the nearby Buttermilk Mountain is a great place for snowboarding and people just starting out and skiing. If it’s a thrill you seek, you might want to explore Snowmass. This is a huge area that lies about 12 miles outside of Aspen. It is over 4,500 feet high and has an incredible 84 runs total. In the amount of time it takes to travel the 12 miles from Aspen to Snowmass, it can take the same amount of time to ski down some of the longer runs of Snowmass. So if you find yourself looking for an adventure, Snowmass is the place to go!
