Epoxy Floor And Bubbles - What To Do?

Formation of bubbles is often seen in epoxy floors. You can find small bubbles, the size of the pinhead, or some large ones, that have an inch in diameter. They are usually found in groups on certain parts of flooring. This is usually due to a phenomenon called ‘out gassing’. This usually happens in the tim epoxy paint is drying up. The rise in temperature is the reason for the heating of the air in the concrete making it expand and form bubbles.

Application primer should be used to reduce the chance of bubble appearance. Also never apply the coating in direct rays of the sun and always use a drill of a slower speed when mixing the coating.

When a roller is used to apply the coating, it is better to use a medium roller. The epoxy should be applied very slowly in a gentle motion. It is another thing that can help with bubbles that can appear on our garage floor.

Bubbles that are formed in epoxy floorings can be removed using grit sandpaper and a rotary scrubber. The first step is to roughen the area with some sandpaper. Then get on to some serious dust cleaning work. Then with a rag wipe the surface area with a strong solvent. When you finish this, apply one more coating. Fisheyes is another type of bubbles that can occur. One of the reasons is the silicone that remained on the surface.

Use sandpaper of medium grit to clean this area in entirety. When you are finished with this, you can clean the entire place with solvent dipped rag. It is now the time to apply the coating you prepared.

If there are bubbles in the entire epoxy flooring area then shot blasting or sand blasting may be considered. You will need to sand blast the entire area of epoxy coating first. Use acid to clean the entire area where problem appeared. In case you are working on a very small area, you can isolate it. Repair the area and then apply the coating again.

Another cause of formation of bubbles in epoxy garage flooring is excessive moisture. Check this by breaking the bubble and try to figure out is there moisture inside it.
